Norv Turner has agreed with the San Diego Chargers to become their new head coach. Turner, who had his first season as the 49ers Offensive Coordinator, did a great job mentoring
Alex Smith and helped develop his game. The Chargers are hoping for the same kind of results with their young QB, Phillip Rivers.

I found your comments really well thought out. You seem like you really know what you are talking about and sound like a professional. My suggestions to you are to add a few more links to help those of us who do not know sports very well. I found this Turner bio to be very informative for just knowing the facts.

If I were into football, I would totally enjoy reading your post. But since I'm not, I would have appreciated some kind of video or audio feature. Here is a site with some 49ers clips. Here's another link to a sports blog network, which might help you out for next time.

Davos,

I just heard the SF 49ers found their replacement for Turner. As expected they promoted within their own offensive ranks to keep the familiarity level high.

Remember, Alex Smith will be going on his third offensive coordinator in three years, and that generally doesn't go well for the young QB.

Now, without further wait, they choose Quarterbacks coach Jim Hostler as the new offensive coordinator.

This seems like a good choice because of the relationship with Alex Smith at this point. Of course Coach Mike Nolan's main goal was to have the least amount of impact on his quarterback.

Here is a coach bio on Hostler.

I don't think Turner will be in trouble. They already have two wins against the Raiders locked up, and I am actually some what of a Raiders fan.

Turner never got his fair share in his previous coaching jobs. Washington has always been a mess and let's not start with Oakland. The head coach with the Raiders is an Al Davis puppet. When he has the talent, he will be successful, see 1992 Cowboys

With LT, a more experienced Philip Rivers and a strong defense, San Diego should be sitting pretty and into the playoffs once again.

Check out this article by the way, it's really worth the read, if you haven't already about a High-School Soccer Rivalry , which was in The Chronicle last week.
